Dotty Chickenpox

It started with some red bumps like pimples on his forehead last Wednesday.  Then on Thursday, out came one under his nose. I undressed him for his morning bath and noticed one blister below his belly button. Later in the day, I saw more on his back. When I came back from work on Friday, I saw few new ones on his face, neck and back of the ear. My sis confirmed that it is chickenpox but I didn’t want to believe her cause I just recover from some kind of cold sores due to viral infection which look alike chickenpox. Moreover, there is no sign of chickenpox symptom…no fever or itchiness and still so jovial.

We brought him to see the paediatrician to confirm the diagnosis. True enough what my sis said. It’s chickenpox or also known as varicella in medical terms which is caused by the varicella-zoster virus but thank God it’s just a mild one. And thank God he don’t scratch them nor behaving vague or uncomfortable.

Now, where he got the virus from? My brother-in-law got it first from don’t know where then my niece and followed by her sister. Then later I had the cold sores which doctor says it is not chickenpox but from the same family. I even went to see Chinese medical practitioner and he too said it is not chickenpox. I still breastfeed Jonathan and now he had got it from me I suppose. So that confirms that the cold sores I had earlier was chickenpox but my mom said I had it when I was a baby. So is this a second attack?

Mom said when I was having chickenpox, I was so difficult. I didn’t allow my shirt to be changed and demanded for the same shirt. Poor mom was looking around shops to see if she can find the same shirt but none. Unlike me, Jonathan boy is being good to me. He is like his normal self. So, Darling, he doesn’t have my gene, ok?

The photo above was taken on the 3rd day. More and more bumps are coming out and his look is worse than what you are seeing here. They are all over his face, neck, body and legs. I spotted some on his scalp. He should be getting the vaccine in another month but the virus just couldn’t wait and choose to attack him now which is close to his birthday in the next few days. All his birthday photos will look “dotty” later. *Sigh* Good thing we didn’t plan to throw him a birthday party otherwise we have to call it off.

Will it leave a scar? Any remedies to clear the blister asap?

    oh dear…..aunty *hugs* *hugs*

I remember when I was young, my grandma use Salt to bath me. Then after that, put “Bedak” powder or calamine lotion.

I pray for speedy recovery so that he could enjoy his birtday on 8/Oct

Btw, can you give me your mailing address?

Oh …. Poor Jonathan, but glad that he is over with chicken pox. I will be bringing Angel for her Varicella vaccine end of this month too. I heard that there is some Chinese herbal to baht in when having chicken pox. You ask the Chinese herbal shop and they should have those and you just need to boil them (I can’t remember the name).

Anyway, I wish Jonathan a Happy Birthday and speedy recovery from his chicken pox ya 🙂 Really can’t believe that he is 1 in just few days time hor 🙂 Mommy should be very happy 🙂 🙂

oh…there are several strains of chicken pox i heard….so even if you have gotten it before, you can get it again (of another strain)..

Guess that is why you had it ‘easy’. Good that little one is having it young. Does calamine help him? If it is red and itchy that is….

    Hope everyone gets well soon!

hope Jonathan recovers soon ya… and happy birthday in advance!

well, if its not itchy, he won’t scratch so should be ok ie no scars.. I heard that if we let it heal themselves, the scars will disappear…

Jonathan is a good boy, he did not scratch on the chicken pox. So, if he doesnt scratch, he will have less scar. But last time my mom said, during thi period of time, dont eat those “dark colour” food, so the scar wont be that obvious. I wonder how true is it.
Anyway, Happy Birthday in advance to Jonathan. Hope he will recover very very soon.

Littlelamb – Please check your email on my address.

MC – You are right. Better to get now when he is young. Easier to take care and don’t have to worry about eating the wrong food.

Caroline – I’ll check for the chinese medicine for bath. Thanks.

Karen – Thanks for your wishes.

Ann – Paed did gave cream to apply for itchiness but he’s not scratching so I just leave it as it is.

June – My hubby said it could be due to the network at the hosting server problem recently but all it ok now.

Sting – Thanks for the birthday wish. I hope there won’t be scars cause the blisters are real big. I’m so worried.

Joanne – Mainly people say don’t take dark soya sauce. He takes plain porridge only so that should be ok.

Lil Prince’s Mum – He hasn’t get the vaccination. Suppose to get it on his 13th month. Guess now he don’t need it already.
